UniCard Solution Limited (“UniCard”) was incorporated in Hong Kong in 2013 with an aim to provide efficient and viable payment solutions.
In March 2014, UniCard obtained its Mastercard Prepaid Card Issuer Licence, enabling us to issue prepaid cards, a role that was previously exclusive to banks.
In November 2016, UniCard was granted a Stored Value Facilities Licence (“SVF licence”), licence number SVF0009, by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (“HKMA”) under the Payment Systems and Stored Value Facilities Ordinance.
UniCard also acquired a UnionPay Prepaid Card Issuer License in January 2019. This has allowed us to provide Mastercard / UnionPay prepaid card services for our clients.
In February 2021, Airwallex received consent from the HKMA to become a shareholder controller of UniCard. In March 2021, Airwallex completed the acquisition of UniCard
